"Home to over 25% of the world's tropical forests, the GCFF’s funding helps member states reach their goal of reducing deforestation 80% by the year 2020"

PROMOTING PARTNERSHIPS

Established by a GCF Task Force mandate in 2011, the GCFF provides funding to a subnational network of GCF member states and provinces from Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, and Nigeria. Home to over 25% of the world's tropical forests, the GCFF’s funding helps member states reach their goal of reducing deforestation 80% by the year 2020 by supporting projects that protect tropical forests, reduce carbon emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and enhance rural livelihoods. The GCFF promotes subnational leadership, innovation, and partnerships by financing projects that correspond to its four member-driven funding windows.

“The GCFF promotes subnational leadership, innovation, and partnerships by financing projects that champion the following member-driven objectives:"

1 | To strengthen institutional capacity to reduce deforestation at the subnational level.

2 | To improve access to financial mechanisms for subnational initiatives and promote results-based incentives.

3 | To strengthen the alignment of national-subnational (vertical) and cross sectorial (horizontal) processes and climate change policies and programs.

4 | To create enabling conditions at the jurisdictional level to allow for the effective involvement of the private sector in efforts to reduce deforestation from commodities

5 | To support the involvement of indigenous peoples and forest dependent communities in jurisdictional programs.
