The 2016 GCF Annual Meeting held in Jalisco, Mexico in August provided an opportunity for delegates of the Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force (GCF Task Force) to contribute to the formalization of the Governors’ Climate and Forests Fund (GCFF) Joint Committee, an advisory committee that is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of the Fund. The GCFF’s Joint Committee enables GCF Task Force stakeholders, including delegates of the GCF jurisdictions and members of the GCFF Board and GCF Secretariat, to participate in the governance of the Fund. Composed of GCF Task Force delegates from Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, and Peru, the Joint Committee’s first delegation of members engaged in a historic first meeting by establishing terms of reference and laying the groundwork for the committee’s successful formation and functioning. The Joint Committee will help maintain transparency and accountability of the GCFF, facilitating communication between the Fund and GCF delegates, as the Fund prepares for the implementation of Norway’s pledged contribution of NOK $200 million.
